How is GPA Calculated?

GPA (Grade Point Average) represents your overall academic performance mapped onto a numeric scale. Follow these instructions to determine your score manually:

  1. Determine the credit value of each course (e.g., 3.0 credits).
  2. Convert your letter grades into point values (e.g., A = 4.0, B = 3.0).
  3. Multiply the points by the credits for each course to calculate quality points.
  4. Add up all quality points and divide by the total number of credit hours.
Letter Grade Percentage Range US 4.0 scale Point Value
A+ / A 93 - 100% 4.0
A- 90 - 92% 3.7
B+ 87 - 89% 3.3
B 83 - 86% 3.0
B- 80 - 82% 2.7
C+ 77 - 79% 2.3
C 73 - 76% 2.0
F Below 60% 0.0

Frequently Asked Questions

Cumulative GPA is the weighted average score representing all semesters combined. Calculate this by finding the sum of all semester quality points and dividing by the total credits earned across all semesters.

An unweighted GPA measures academic standing out of 4.0, representing all classes equally. A weighted GPA rewards students taking rigorous classes by adding weight: AP/IB classes are calculated on a 5.0 scale (adds +1.0) and Honors classes are calculated on a 4.5 scale (adds +0.5).

WES (World Education Services) evaluates academic transcripts by converting grades into an unweighted US 4.0 scale. They do not factor in honors or AP bonuses, focusing instead on course level, grade distribution, and institutional weights.
